Georgia Aquarium Volunteers
The Georgia Aquarium Volunteer Program is comprised of over 1,000 enthusiastic and extraordinary people who are passionate about aquatic life and conservation. Get involved! Whether you have a talent for working with people or your abilities are more specialized, we can use your skills.
In return for your time, you’ll enjoy a unique volunteer experience. You will work in a fascinating aquarium environment with great people. You’ll also know you’re helping to create an experience that will entertain and educate millions of people each year. If you’re wondering how to give back to your community, this is the opportunity that you’ve been looking for!
All volunteers must possess good communication and inter-personal skills. In addition, we’re looking for a number of volunteers with special skill sets – for example, if you are fluent in several languages or have sign language skills, you could fill an important need.
What are the prerequisites for being a volunteer at the Georgia Aquarium?
- 18 years old or older
- A high school diploma or GED
- U.S. citizen or Green Card holder
- Proof of medical insurance

What are the requirements to be a volunteer?
- Pay the initial Volunteer Fee of $60 (includes: two free annual passes, free daily tickets, discounted annual passes and tickets, a uniform shirt, training, etc.)
- Commit to a minimum of two four-hour shifts per month for one year
- Pass a background check
- Meet the requirements for the position for which you choose to volunteer
- Attend the training sessions required for your position
- Follow the policies and procedures of the Georgia Aquarium
- Wear your Aquarium uniform (shirt provided) while at your position
What’s the process for becoming a volunteer?
- Complete an application on-line at our website http://www.georgiaaquarium.org/joinOurTeam/volunteer.aspx
- Attend an information session at the Aquarium
- Pay the Volunteer Fee
- Participate in a background check
- Attend an orientation class
- Complete other training classes required for your chosen position
Volunteer Program staff will communicate with you via e-mail or telephone to keep you informed as you move through the application and training process.
What else should I be aware of?
- Volunteer shifts are scheduled in four-hour increments.
- Volunteer positions are filled based on the abilities and interests of the volunteer, the skills required, scheduling and seniority. Seniority is based on the date the volunteer began his/her service and the number of hours served.
- Some positions, such as diver, require a volunteer to have completed a fixed number of service hours in other areas before being eligible for the position.
Volunteer jobs will be filled based on ability, skills required, scheduling and seniority. Seniority is obtained by start date with the Georgia Aquarium.
Volunteer shifts will be in four hour increments.
